We have featured a lot of record storage units off eBay in the past, but that’s pretty much all they are, places for storing records. The HiFi Console by Department Chicago is much better than that.
Yes, the design is a midcentury-inspired one and yes, you can store your records here (120+ apparently). But that’s where the similarity ends. This unit comes with a Bluetooth-enabled amplifier, connecting wirelessly to all your favourite enabled devices, with inputs also for your TV, record deck and other old school audio. Flick the ‘on’ switch and you are away!
I know what you’re thinking, where can I get one? Well, this is a Kickstarter, so you need to pledge to make it a reality. The good news is that the pledges are already past the target, so it will happen.
If you want to commit to buying one, the entry price is $1,695. Sadly (for those of us in the UK and elsewhere), it doesn’t look like it ships outside the US just now. But it might be worth registering an interest by committing to just $1. That gets you a place in the community and a voice for future projects. Perhaps you can be part of a push to get these in your country too.
