This has such a strong look. But the 1950s Braun TS 3-81 stereo tube radio is more than just a pretty face.
This modernist unit wasn’t designed by Dieter Rams, as you might have guessed. I think it was the Ulm school of design, but do double check that. Regardless of the designer, it has the Rams ‘look’, stylish and simple. As a result, it’s a design that has stood the test of time.
It has also stood the test of time mechanically too, still playing three wave bands (broadcast, long wave and FM) using nine tubes and three loudspeakers. It also has an adapter to allow digital players to use the radio as a speaker.
The radio has been restored and does have ‘light signs of wear’, but looks good from the pictures. Make your mind up though, If it does appeal, the Braun TS 3-81 can be in your home if you pay £443.34 on a ‘Buy It Now’.
