This isn’t a copy of the classic Womb Chair by Eero Saaarinen. But the Rowan Chair at West Elm is certainly inspired by it.
Which is great news for fans of the 1940s Saarinen classic on a budget, as this sells for a fraction of the £4,000+ price you would pay for the chair from Knoll.
The difference seems to be in the angles and the curves. Yes, the legs are a little simplified compared to the Knoll chair, but the more sloping back and arms of the West Elm version really separates the two. The Saarinen chair is more ‘tub like’ in shape.
So for your money here you get that shape, a tubular metal frame, cushy seat and lumbar cushion plus a chunky basketweave upholstery. £799 is the price.
