Back in 2008 it became an app and in 2009 the Stylophone Beatbox launched. Now the Stylophone Gen X-1 is here, once again updating the 1960s classic. But not too much.
In this case, the formula hasn’t been tampered with too much, with new features and sounds added to a very familiar design.
The Gen X-1 is still very much an analogue synth, complete with controls for attack and decay as well as knobs for tweaking filter and delay. You also get LFO with both square and triangle settings plus a pair of sub octaves. Oh yes, you can still play Space Oddity on it with the stylus just like Bowie did in the formative years of the Stylophone.
Battery power and a 3.5mm jack too, as well as a May launch date. Expect to pay £59.99 when it does land, although if you register with the maker you can get 20 per cent off the first batch of devices.
