Who would have thought that Audi made cars like this once? Well it did, under the name Auto Union SP 1000.
Auto Union was the umbrella name for a car making company in Germany and a business that eventually used the Audi name from the 1960s. This car pre-dates that a little, going back to 1958.
It’s quite a thing too, no doubt inspired by US car design of a similar era and looking all the better for a restoration. However, that restoration sin’t quite finished.
As you can see, the body has been rebuilt and painted, a new interior added in red leather, the electrics improved and the engine compartment refreshed. This is a car that will turn heads.
According to the seller, the ’to do/ improve’ list involves the engine, suspension and braking system, with possible maintenance of the chassis too. He or she believes the car is 85 per cent completed, which perhaps gives you idea of the work involved.
But money obviously put into this car already and a rarity value for sure. That means the car doesn’t come cheap, currently at £16,500 on eBay.
