Once again, Maisons Du Monde comes up trumps with a piece of vintage design. This rather lovely Gimmick record cabinet.
You can get record cabinets these days, but most are handmade to order and usually found on sites like Etsy. In fact, I was thinking of compiling a top 10 in the near future to pull them all together. But I can’t think of many (if any) that are available from high street or regular retailers. This could be pretty much the only one.
If you have the market to yourself, you can probably get away with an inferior product. But this record cabinet is far from that. It’s a very stylish piece of retro furniture and a practical one too. Especially if you still love your vinyl or want somewhere for your record player. Plenty of room on top for most compact decks out there.
The look is pure midcentury Scandinavian, with a solid acacia frame and acacia veneer doors, offering storage behind those cupboard doors, customs record storage space to the right, drawer space above that and interestingly, a door glazed with tempered glass. I honestly don’t know what functionality that offers. The retailer says it’s for seeing your records, but the glass looks to be above one of the drawers. Room for a few singles in there? Who knows. Hairpin legs too, always nice to see.
I love it and if the Gimmick record cabinet has caught your eye too, then you’ll be pleased to hear that it is now in the retailer’s range. It sells for £750.50.
