I can’t offer time travel, but I can offer a glimpse into another era with the Fred Perry 1979 polo shirt.
Pat of the label’s Reissues collection, this is a made in England shirt that claims to be a replica of the shirt made and designed by Fred Perry back in 1979.
Not a huge difference with the current shirts available, but with enough subtle differences to appeal to the collector and the connoisseur.
The 1979 shirt has a ‘neat collar’, along with a ‘slightly longer’ sleeve and body length plus the three button placket, an original label and Laurel Wreath embroidery. White with ice and navy details is the colour option.
With vintage prices for classic Fred Perry on the rise, this could be a shrewd move by the company, although it doesn’t come cheap. You are looking at £80 for one of these, which is pricier than the current range of Fred Perry polo shirts available right now, which obviously have the added bonus of being offered in a wide range of shades, not just the white.
