Yes, it looks vintage and as such, probably a bit pricey. But this 1960s-style three-tone handbag is actually at La Redoute and far from expensive.
It’s described as having a ‘retro vintage look’ by the retailer, but we would nail this down to the 1960s. This is the kind of bag you can imagine on the shoulder of some hip young thing down the Kings Road or even Carnaby Street back in the day. Check out the wonderful Boutique London book by Richard Lester if you want to know more about that era.
Why so sixties? Well, it’s both down to the look and the colours. The geometric shapes and patent finish (although this isn’t actually made of leather), along with the orange and brown colour scheme. This is a retro piece with authenticity in terms of the styling.
I suppose it hasn’t changed much on the practical side either, although there obviously wasn’t much use for a mobile phone pocket back in 1966. The bag also has an adjustable, detachable shoulder strap and a magnetic stud for fastening.
The price? Just £32. In fact, even cheaper as La Redoute has 25 per cent off everything right now with the code SAVE25. So a serious bargain.
