I know what you are thinking. You think Eames-inspired Lombardi desk chair at Urban Outfitters looks remarkably similar to a design classic. I do too.
In fact, if I told you that this desk chair was a variation of the classic 1956 Eames Lounge Chair (which is, incidentally, in the sale at Heal’s) then you might well believe me. At least, you would unless you knew that Charles and Ray Eames didn’t produce any such design.
So no, this isn’t an official Eames piece. it just has the look. Which is no bad thing. If you want a desk chair to match the lounge chair, it is worth a look. Or if you simply want a desk chair with a midcentury look, this might also be for you.
You see, I have featured a variety of midcentury and retro desks, but you don’t often see a lot of chairs to match. This one might fill a gap in the market.
If you opt for it, you get the curved wood surround, a choice of colours for the (faux) leather seating with button detail and as it’s an office chair, you also get a metal base with wheels and a lever to adjust the height of the Lombardi.
Of course, this isn’t produced by Vitra (the faux leather bit probably told you that), which means we are not talking Vitra prices. The asking price here is $229, which is around £174. Sadly, this is yet to appear on the UK version of Urban Outfitters, but it is in stock at the US site right now.
