Functionality might be lacking, but this Weltron 2002 space age audio system on eBay certainly has the look.
This really is the 1970s dream – and a dream addition to a 1970s space age home or interior. The future, as seen from four decades back.
What I don’t know for sure is if this thing works or if it’s just for display purposes.
Weirdly, neither does the seller. According to my translated German (yes, this is being sold out of Germany) this rare model from the 1970s is made up of a radio and two speaker units, with the one downside cosmetically being a lack of a foot on the radio.
But despite that, the radio is said to be in a ‘very nice well-kept’ condition, with a ‘slight patina’. So far, so good, especially when it comes in such a wonderful shade of orange.
The problem is that the radio has not been tested and as such, it isn’t clear whether it is a working radio or something to show off on your 1970s sideboard. The seller said that is ‘for hobbyists’ because of the uncertainty, but you do wish he or she would just plug it in and find out for us all, as it does make a difference.
If you want to take a risk, the Weltron 2002 is up for sale for £443.64 (that’s the converted price) on a ‘Buy It Now’, with the option of making an offer if you prefer. The price seems steep for a non-tested unit. Definitely go for the cheaper offer if you have an interest or you or someone you know is useful with vintage gadgets.
