Can’t afford an Eames Lounge Chair but want a similar look? Let me introduce you to the Paulo armchair by West Elm.
That’s the obvious inspiration here. This isn’t a copy of the 1956 design classic, but it is a new take on the look of that timeless and much-loved midcentury design.
So the curved wood fame and padded arms, as well as the cushioning in black, which, like the Eames Chair, is designed for comfort. Or like a well-used baseball glove, just like the original.
Luxurious, without being over the top and like the Eames Chair, a design statement for the home.
I suppose it all comes down to budget and personal taste. If you really want an Eames Chair (and many do want the original), then it might be worth saving up and investing. They hold their value and really are wonderful and comfortable things. But paying in excess of £5,000 for a chair is quite an ask for most of us.
The Paulo armchair by West Elm isn’t a cheap option either. But at £999, it is considerably cheaper than the Charles and Ray Eames classic.
