Plenty of Beetles up for sale right now, but this fully restored 1959 Volkswagen Beetle on eBay is the one that caught my eye.
Interesting too for a couple more reasons. First off, this is a right hand drive rather than a left-hand drive import. Secondly, the restoration has intentionally only gone so far. A lot of work has been done, but some areas have been left to show its age. I’ll explain about that in a moment.
According to the seller, the car was ‘separated from pan’ and the whole car stripped. The pan was fully stripped back to bare metal etch and painted black and the car was re-joined with the body with all new rubbers and hardware.
Plenty more work was undertaken and parts updated and replaced (see the listing for the full breakdown), which the engine has been completely rebuilt ‘at great expense’. The gearbox was also cleaned and painted.
Note that the colour of the car is ‘mignonette green’, which is not original but has been there for around 50 years and ‘still shines up’.
As for the interior, well that’s what I meant when I said that some parts of this car had been left without too much work. That interior is original and has been repaired and reinstalled. But it hasn’t been replaced by something new, which adds to the character of the car.
So much more to say about this one, but if you want all the detail, especially in terms of the work carried out, then you really need to go to the listing to get the lowdown.
If this is something that appeals, it is up for sale with a set price, although you can make a cheaper offer if you wish. The list price on the car is £10,500.
