I wrote about these back in 2012 and they haven’t been available since. But the 1970s Adidas Baltic Cup trainers are returning this week.
So a long delay, although part of that might well have been down to some kind of legal complications. This reissue is being produced and sold in conjunction with the Size? retailer who point out that licensing issues have forced it to tweak the design a little.
It’s all down to the name, which has been changed to ‘BC trainer’ rather than Baltic Cup. I don’t know why that is an issue, but the Baltic Cup has changed since this hope was first produced back in the 1970s.
Back then it was an East European handball tournament, whereas today it is a football tournament for Baltic states. I am guessing that the maker hasn’t been able to sanction using the name with the new organisation behind the current event.
It’s a small thing but worth noting. Nothing else has changed, with the shoe being a one-to-one reissue of that original design outside of the words in gold on the side.
So a strong blue colour matched up with an equally bold yellow for the detailing. The upper is side and of course, everything sits on a gum rubber outsole.
If you want a pair, this Size? exclusive will be available on Friday 29th November, priced at £75 in all sizes for both men and women
