A collaboration with Lover’s FC, Lyle & Scott recreates 90s football shirts as knitwear to great effect.
It’s weird to think of the 1990s as a bygone era, but it is. The decade started 30 years ago. I know. It seems like yesterday. And these football shirts in their original form would be classed as vintage. But these aren’t in their original form.
Lyle & Scott has teamed up with Lover’s FC for a limited-edition capsule collection of football-inspired knits. Yes, at their heart these are instantly recognisable club (and country) shirts, but each one has been re-imagined using textured and premium Italian merino wool.
If your favourite is here, that helps. But you don’t need an association with the team for this to work. The classic Germany shirt just works as a piece of knitwear. Ok, a couple will struggle to get away from the teams concerned. England of course and that Manchester City one too. But generally, these are interesting designs that will get you noticed on the street or on the terraces. Well, seats these days, but you get my point.
Oh and just for the record, the full collection is inspired by the kits of England, Germany, Manchester City, Ajax (away), Fiorentina and Dortmund. But you probably knew that anyway.
Sizes are Small through to XL when they land and prices aren’t cheap. You are looking at something like £140, which puts them firmly into premium territory. But these are only available in a limited run and might well be collector’s pieces for fans of the teams concerned in the years ahead.
They will be available directly from Lyle & Scott as well as from Oi Polloi.
