Looking for something unashamedly retro for a feature wall? Check out the 1970s wallpaper collection by Murals Wallpaper.
I featured some 1970s design flooring not too long ago and now you can have the walls to match. Actually, they don’t match and if I’m honest, I don’t think you would want them to match either. What I’m saying is that you can have a 1970s floor and some 1970s walls somewhere in your house – not necessarily alongside each other. But if that’s what you want, go ahead.
But first, let me talk about the collection in front of you here, which by its very existence shows just how much the 1970s have become a ’thing’ once again when it comes to interior design. That didn’t look likely a few years back.
But back it is and although this collection avoids the cliche designs of the era, it does use the bold colours and big shapes you might associate with the era. If you have read (or own) an early edition of the Conran House Book you’ll know exactly where this collection is coming from.
According to designer Kat Jones: ‘Our vision for this collection was to give a nod to an era with its own iconic colour palette. With bright, exuberant colours and patterns, we’ve kept it modern and liveable for 2020 by combining with geometric shapes. The designs are the perfect backdrop to a funky feel-good living room. Wherever you place it, you’re sure to feel your spirits instantly lifted!’
All six of the designs are pictured here, going by the names of Cheer, Boing, Rainbow Track, Sundown, Sun Rays, and Rock Candy. If you fancy any of them, each is available to buy now. But it’s not as easy as popping down to your local B&Q to get one.
Each is made to measure and sold directly by the maker. If you want a guide to the price, you are looking at £37 per square metre.
