It looks like an original midcentury modern design, but this is actually a Redpop 1950s-style rattan sideboard at La Redoute.
If I had told you it was an original vintage piece, you might well have believed me. And the reason why is its rather quirky design.
You know what a typical midcentury modern reproduction sideboard looks like. Tapered legs, dark wood, a few curves and some drawers in the middle. I’ve featured a good number and there is nothing wrong with that look at all. It’s timeless.
But La Redoute has gone a little left field with this one, going for a more unusual 1950s look, one that incorporates the rattan frontage, dispenses with the tapered legs and goes for a colour scheme that’s a little unusual, but very much in line with the 1950s. In short, this is something different, but in a good way.
It has been constructed in MDF, with a nitrocellulose varnish finish. Details include two sliding doors, the rattan cane door, one fixed shelf behind each door and four compartments. The feet and handles are in an epoxy brass finish metal.
I like it. If you do too, it sells for £450. Although La Redoute has a 15 per cent off code right now. See that on the retailer’s page.
