A tribute to a midcentury classic, courtesy of the Eames Armchair retro wallpaper by Marketa Stengl, which is produced by Spoonflower.
When I say Eames Armchair, I’m actually talking about the Eames DAR Armchair, a 1950s design with a moulded plastic seat and a metal frame (aka the ‘Eiffel Tower’ base for the legs. It specifically dates back to the 1950s and has been an inspiration to many for decades since.
If you want one, there are plenty of colours to choose from and all are available at Heal’s for £355. Not cheap, but it is a classic for your home.
Saying that, this article isn’t about the chair itself, it is about the wallpaper inspired by it.
That’s a colourful design by Marketa Stengl for Spoonflower. You might recall that I featured the Spoonflower range some time ago, which is a great option if you want something authentically 1950s or 1960s for your walls. When I featured the company, this design wasn’t listed, as it has just been made available.
When I say available, I mean available to order, as each order is custom-printed in a choice of smooth water-activated wallpaper or woven peel-and-stick wallpaper, with a fixed 24-inch width and a variety of lengths. Basically, you work out the space you need to cover (and perhaps a bit of spare in case of accidents) and put in your order.
All the Spoonflower paper is fully removable too, which is good if you are renting or in university accommodation and want to brighten up temporarily. Alternatively, it’s great if you get bored of your walls quickly too.
Depending on which variation you go for, you are looking at either £6.38 per ft. As you probably worked out from that, Spoonflower is a US seller, but they ship worldwide, including the UK.
