Once upon a time, these were given away with a football magazine. But you can still buy classic League Ladders if you know where to look.
It was Shoot! magazine that was known for giving away sets of League Ladders each season. It was something of a ritual seeing these on the shelves and an indicator that the new football season was just around the corner. So it seems appropriate to feature them now with the upcoming season a matter of days away.
It’s a simple concept and in a way, a long-outdated one. But it’s also a fun thing, especially if you have young children. Yes, you can log onto your favourite football site or sports app to see a table, but it’s rather lovely to create your own table with these tabs.
And if you are anything like me, you can tweak it so your own, less successful team gets to the top of the table. Well, the 8-year-old me anyway. I wouldn’t do anything like that now. Honest.
The ladders feature all the English and Scottish leagues for the season 2022/23. Of course, with teams dropping out of the league, you might be forced to buy a new set next year. But this is modest money and well worth the cost for just one season.
Each team comes with a club fact, so your kids get to learn as well as create the league. And with eight spare tabs, you don’t need to worry about losing one or two as the season progresses.
