I have seen pricey versions of these, so the Habitat Arbaa budget midcentury modern floor lamp is well worth checking out.
In fact, you might recall me featuring the eye-catching handmade retro rocket floor lamps by Harvest Moon on the site. Yes, they were bolder and handmade, but they were also pricier than these. Originals from the era go for serious money – and that’s before you have paid out to get the electrics checked and updated.
So this is a welcome addition to the Habitat range. A retailer that comes out with retro gems on a fairly regular basis these days and, as such, is well worth keeping an eye on.
The design is pure 1950s midcentury modern. A distinctive design of the era and using the tried and tested mix of fabric and wood for the finish. It’s an appealing piece that’s perfect if you are going down the midcentury modern route and want some mood lighting as well as something appealing to the eye when it isn’t switched on.
It’s around 125cm tall (just over 4ft), with a three-legged rubberwood base, a shade with a crosshatch weave, an in-line switch, a two-metre cord and light via two bulbs (which aren’t included).
£110 seems a reasonable price for a retro design statement. If you want one, act quickly, as Habitat’s range has a habit of changing fairly regularly.
