As the name suggests, a label often focused on the 1960s. But the Teen Spirit Kurt Cobain-inspired t-shirt by 66 Clothing is peak 90s.
And I know t-shirts aren’t exactly the thing for this time of the year. But here’s a thought. We still wear t-shirts inside and under layers. Another thought. It’s almost Christmas.
So, if you know someone who loves Nirvana or the 90s grunge scene, this could make an ideal gift now or when the temperatures start to lift.
Have a look at the retailer’s site for images of Kurt wearing a t-shirt pretty much identical to this one. Oh yes, it was also the t-shirt worn in the Smells Like Teen Spirit video. Which only adds a certain something to its period charm. It feels odd talking about the ’90s as the past, but let’s be honest: that decade started 34 years ago. it wasn’t yesterday.
The original shirt might well be much older. Kurt got his original top from a vintage shop, and to fit with the label’s ethos, this is more than likely a 1960s t-shirt—or possibly an early 1970s one. Either way, it is probably much older than Nirvana’s iconic tune.
The recreated top is made from a cotton-acrylic blend, designed to be ‘both comfortable to wear and durable’ and to keep its shape. Sizes range from small through to 3XL, and the price is £48.
