Now this is what you call a welcome reissue. The return of the 1970s Puma Brasil trainers after 55 years.
Of course it’s Brasil (or Brazil if you prefer). Just look at the colours. This is a shoe that was created as a tie-in for the World Cup in 1970, which was held in that particular country.
And it’s a shoe that has aged very, very well. Originally designed as an all-rounder for general wear or casual sports use, this is what Puma used to have a name for. No-nonsense trainers that look good because of their minimalist look. It’s why so many of its basketball designs from this era are still in production.
The green and yellow are the standout features, representing the nation’s colours. But beyond that, it’s all about the lack of detail. A suede upper with a contrasting Puma stripe, very subtle branding to the side, and, of course, the gum outsole for grip. Once again, less is more is a winning formula.
It’s a rare reissue and, as such, likely to be limited in numbers. All sizes are available at the present time, but that might not be the case long term. If you want to add some old-school football style to your feet, the Puma Brasil is available for £85.
