A throwback from 60+ years back, the Adidas Originals Samba 62 trainers are an early incarnation of a classic.
Adidas seems to be working the 1960s as we enter 2025. Two versions of the coveted Adidas Japan dropped just after the new year and sold pretty fast (although some in brown are still available) and this is the follow-up. Albeit a pricey one.
The maker describes it as ‘a reshaped tribute to the early versions of the famed football silhouette’, bringing the look and detail back to the version worn in 1962.
The Samba has had a bit of a revival of late, with various finishes available in leather and suede. The style hasn’t changed a great deal in years, but it has changed over the decades and since it was first produced as an all-round football trainer back in 1949.
This 1960s incarnation is a good-looking and a standout shoe, produced in a premium ‘Cloud White’ leather upper, and with a a suede T-toe as well as having ‘calligraphic’ gold foil branding. Note also the outsole cut-outs as well as herringbone treading to aid with grip on icy surfaces when playing a match. Not that you’ll be using these for a kickabout.
That’s because the price of this limited edition is £150.
