The retailer is having a bit of a ‘70s moment right now, so I’ve picked out my five favourite 1970s-style table lamps at La Redoute.
Not that their obsession with the 1970s is down to just table lamps. The online retailer has long had a strong retro range when it comes to everything from furniture to floor coverings. It’s just that the lamps have jumped out at me from the new range.
We all love retro lamps. They look good on the eye whether they are turned on or off, and if you want some mood lighting, just flick the switch.
Oh yes, they don’t have to cost a fortune. Ok, you can buy some designer reissue for hundreds. But you can also pick up something with the ‘look’ for a lot less. Like the five lamps here. See what you think. Most would work in a 1960s-inspired environment, too.
As for prices, do check the retailer’s site. They pretty much ALWAYS have discount codes running, so the price is likely to be a lot less than the one I mentioned here.
Merisa 1970s table lamp in glass and chrome
I think this one is my favourite. The kind of design you might find in an antique store- but this is actually a new design.
It has it all. The chrome, the tulip-style base, which in turns supports the matt opaline glass lampshade. It’s a statement retro lamp with modern-day inner workings, which is always a good thing. The list price is £149.99, but you’ll get it a lot cheaper with one of the discount codes on the site.

Capi chrome table lamp
Of course, you get a strong Verner Panton vibe here and you might associate it more with the 1960s. But the chrome finish pushes it more into the ‘70s for me.
This is an iron lamp with a chrome finish, again with modern working and designed to house an LED bulbs (not supplied). Stylish and all the more so because of its simplicity. The list price on this one is just £59.99.

Loulou mushroom table lamp
Another mushroom-style lamp, this time skipping the chrome and going for glass.
It looks good too with the ribbed opaline glass finish, which carries through fro the shade into the base. A real statement piece, but without the statement price. Not that it is cheap, but £169.99 isn’t designer money.

Omer metal and opaline table lamp
I love this one, very much in the style of late 1970s Habitat. I can imagine it appearing in Terence Conran’s House Book.
Love the blue, love the conical base and oval shade, which is opaline glass once more. Another talking point of a table lamp, which can be yours for £129.99 (plus a hefty discount like all the others).

Agathilda opaline and marble lamp
Marble just screams the 1970s, and this lamp will have your friends guessing if it’s the real deal or not.
Again, an interesting shape that goes down the mushroom route but adds in a ridged edge to make things a little different. If that’s not enough, the marble base adds in a bit of class and yes, another opaline shade. Even before the discount, £109.99 seems good value.
